One Vision- July 2008

Written & Produced by Sue Gallagher M.B.E.
Assistant Directors & Choreography: Vicki Gallagher and Gareth Pearson

This show was specially written for the group by its producer, Sue Gallagher. It is the story of Finn, a young man studying music at college, but being drawn only to contemporary pop music. He is faced with writing an assignment about traditional and contemporary musicals, a task he finds impossible – because there is nothing in them to interest him. In a dream he is guided, by Harmony and Melody, on a trip through a range of musicals showing him that there is something of interest for him. We joined him in his dream visiting a wide range of musicals, both traditional and modern .

The set was superb – simple but very effective, and a large cast, with a wide age range, all worked well together. At times the balance of voices was not always just right, and a soundtrack is never very forgiving in terms of speed, or allowing singers to put in a ritardando or rallentando for effect.

I missed a fair amount of dialogue by Melody and Harmony, which was a great shame. The costumes were very good and helped set the scene as we were whisked along from one musical to the next, featuring all the best toe-tapping tunes from each, and all beautifully linked by the story.

The choreography was well disciplined, with everyone doing the same thing at the same time – no small feat (or should that be feet?) – well done.

Overall it was a very different and entertaining evening out, thank you to all concerned for all your hard work and effort.
